When digital photography ruled the current photography scene and images are constantly buffed up in
Photoshop, the beauty in using film becomes more prominent.
Today we feature a local talent, JODIE POH! Ever since secondary two, she brings her analogue cameras wherever she goes. It all started when her God sister bought a SuperSampler camera for her as a gift. From then on, her collection of cameras increased gradually. But most of the times when I see her around, she’s with her Diana Mini!
Making the mundane things around Singapore interesting through film is tricky. But her photos of her outing with friends and events had a little more kick to it as the pictures are splashed with coloured flashes or multiple exposure shots.
However, shooting film is not exactly a smooth hobby. Developing the film and buying the film in the first place requires a regular dedication of saving up money. Jodie had problems herself as her mother was not exactly supportive of her interests, saying that it was too costly. But then again, look at where she is now!
Film photography is a dying art form that our generation should try out. Why not just pick up a disposable camera and see how 36 frames can warp the way you shoot pictures. A little warning, it’s an extremely addictive hobby :>
